Have you just finished writing your novel or short story and now find yourself wondering what the next stage might be?
Are you looking for someone to help you over that final hurdle before moving forward with publication and make sure your work is the best it can possibly be?
Or are you looking for a copy-editor to help you identify areas that may need some tweaking?
How I’m here to help
Hi! I’m Heather and I’m here to help writers. I’m a qualified proofreader and copy-editor, working primarily in the science fiction, fantasy and speculative fiction genres, but with added interest in genres such as horror, mystery and even a bit of romance. (Well, we all love a bit of romance, don’t we?)
I edit for UK English to check consistency in spelling, punctuation and grammar, as well as looking at deeper elements of story structure and flow, if that’s what you need. My aim is to polish your text with my editing duster to remove any distractions so that your writing and story shines through and are a pleasure to read.
As a writer myself, I know how hard it can be to hand over your baby to someone for any kind of assessment, but you can rest easy knowing that it’s in good hands. It will be given the patience and respect it deserves and treated with sensitivity to your voice and style. After all, you are the writer, I’m just on the periphery, offering guidance on the technical bits and cheering you on with the creative bits.
About me
I’m a fully qualified proofreader and copy-editor and a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). I have a BA (Honours) in Literature from the Open University which includes creative writing modules, so you know I have the knowledge and skills to work confidently on story structure and development.
My spare time is usually filled by writing my own science fiction and fantasy stories, as well as reading books and stories of all kinds or chilling out with a film and my family. Weekends tend to revolve around sport and running, and I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if the neighbours could hear me shouting when my teams are winning (or losing). I’m just glad they can’t see me jumping up and down as well!
